Hey all, I'm trying to get my dad's 78 DT400 running again, I started with cleaning the carb, replacing fuel lines, replacing the spark plug, and the coil, I'll picking up a new battery tomorrow. After replacing the plug and coil, there is still no spark, I've been kicking it over without the battery in it, but front my understanding that is it's kick to start it doesn't need a battery. I've been told that it could be the stator, which I've looked at prices online and that's something I'll have to weight until next year to mess with. Is there a way to test the stator to see if it's the problem? Could it be possible that there is another reason for it not having spark?

Thank you in advance!

over to you John (he's restored a few)

Depending on where the bike has been stored I would do a thorough check of all the wiring. Oops, just noticed the post date. Still there?

It's been in a shed, I didn't think about checking wiring. Thank you for the suggestion!

Just seen this,   .most likely the CDI BOX.  or the Pulsar coil,  to test the pulsar, its the Red/wite wire  coming from stator ,  put the meter on it, [ Ohms   ]   and kick it over,   you should get   a reading , . there is no way to test the box,  [specialist equipment]   ,try swapping it ,,with another ,known box,

Unfortunately, other projects and daily driver issues took priority this summer, but I'm looking into replacing the stator, As it was sold as a street legal bike, and I plan on learning on it, I'd like to get a stator that'll power accessories, like headlights. I have yet to find one. Any suggestions?

Depending on how you intend on using the bike, a 12 volt conversion might be a better (though more expensive) option.

There's a thread on how it was done on a 175 here: DT175 12V conversion

Or this one on a suitable kit: dt400 12 volt conversion

Or a US site that supplies them: hvccycle kit

http://www.powerdynamo.biz/eng/products.htmGo for the Hvcycle option, its Powerdynamo, [ german]   i"v had bad dealings with Rex speed systems, failing and lack of back-up,  he admitted they were wrongly built,  read this, https://yamaha-enduros.com/index.php/forum/performance-improvements/7305-rex-s-electronic-ignitions?start=0

you can buy powerdynamo ,direct from germany,,,,http://www.powerdynamo.biz/eng/products.htm
