Posted May 18, 20177 yr Hi guys, when I fuel up my XS 250 will IÂ need to use an additive i.e. lead replacement etc.
May 18, 20177 yr Moderator No. Japan has never had leaded fuel. You should use super or ultimate petrol though. Not for the higher octane although your bike will run better. No because at the moment it is ethanol free. A lot of your seals and the brass in your carbs can be badly damaged by ethanol. As well as running much leaner, not so critical on a 4stroke. Ethanol also holds water. Not good either. Will rot your tank out in no time.
May 20, 20177 yr Yep like Cynic said, l was using redex lead replacement for years till I joined YOC Only to find I didn't need it, been running fine without now for about 5 years.
May 20, 20177 yr Moderator i do use the super unleaded in the vain hope it doesn't have ethanol in it
May 22, 20177 yr Will the ethanol also impact on two-strokes? Should super unleaded be used instead of regular on two-strokes?

June 28, 20177 yr Does super unleaded prevent the fuel from turning to Gel when left for a long period? I hear this can be a problem for bikes with carbs stood say over the winter, caused by unleaded petrol. Cheers Â
June 28, 20177 yr Its not as bad. My carb varnished up in 2 mths with unleaded. Not had a problem since with super
