42653steve
I have a 1978 Chappy 50cc no spark. I have power to the wire that plugs into the wire to coil when I kick it over test light flashes. How can I test the coil still on bike without removing it? Thanks
Moderator Cynic Posted January 17, 2017 Moderator Share Posted January 17, 2017 ohms test, or you could connect the battery to the coil and then break the connection, that normally will cause the coil to spark if things are ok
Moderator Airhead Posted January 17, 2017 Moderator Share Posted January 17, 2017 yeah don't know the exact figures for a chappy but assuming it is a magneto type ignition the same as a DT175 then... Primary coil is about 1.0 Ohms to ground and the secondary HT coil is 5.9 K Ohm to ground (remove the plug cap to test this)
wild foamy
As above, resistance testing coils is the way to go, don't have the exact figures to hand but they should be in your workshop manual
