grouse
I need to tear down the carbs on a virago 535 that was in storage for 6 years. What is the safest way to clean the carb bodies after they are tore down, but the butterfly valve rubber doesn't get damaged?

slice
Find someone local with an ultrasonic cleaner and pay them to do it for you. This will not harm the rubbers and it's supposed to be really effective.
Psycrow
Sonic cleaning is best. Most only use water with mild soap which should treat any your rubber right. However it's best to remove any rubber or felt O rings and seals before cleaning. Carb cleaner is nasty stuff and will eat rubber and felt seals. I personally only use that stuff on the Jets and emulsion tubes and only after they have been removed from the carb body. .
