Matt D Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Good morning all I have just signed up as i have a issue with my 2010 XT125 R and i was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue of know of a fix. I recently bought my XT125 and it was running fine, but recently i have started to notice a kind of whine in 3rd and 4th coming from the left side of the engine which i assume is the gear box? Also i have started to notice that it is sounding noisy from the left side also when the bike is free rolling. It kinda sounds like when a push bike is free rolling. Has any one had this before? is it normal? is there a fix?CheersMatt
slice Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Hi Matt, can I make a suggestion? It helps if you say Hello in the new members section BEFORE you ask a "how do I fix my bike" question' We get loads of one hit wonders on here who ask for help then vanish never to be seen again and they rarely if ever say "thank you" when advice is offered, makes folks wary of first time visitors, obvious really, it's not that we're unwelcoming it's more a "why bother if they won't even say hello", so if you would be so kind to pop over to the above section you might get more help. Just sayin.
Matt D Posted November 9, 2015 Author Posted November 9, 2015 Apologies. Its my 1st time using a forum (as you can tell lol) wasn't sure on the etiquette and didn't mean to offend.
slice Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 No prob mate the more the merrier. always nice to have new folks join in. 1
Malleus Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 How many miles has it done? When you say 'free rolling' do you mean moving with the clutch pulled in? (Sorry not heard this expression before)
Matt D Posted November 9, 2015 Author Posted November 9, 2015 Hi Malleus It has done between 18-20K i think. Yeah rolling in neutral or with he clutch pulled in.
Malleus Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 If the sound is definitely coming from the transmission I guess it could be damaged bearings or sprockets. 1
Moderator Cynic Posted November 9, 2015 Moderator Posted November 9, 2015 How much oil in there, how old is the chain? Is it lubricated and adjusted properly?A bad chain can do all sorts of silly tricks, that gearbox is the same as the dt and mine has survived 30 years of stupid so it would be what I checked last. 3
Matt D Posted November 10, 2015 Author Posted November 10, 2015 The oil is topped right up and only 3 months old as changed it when i bought the bike. However i do think the chain could do with replacing as it is showing signs of wear and tear. I will do so and let you guys know the out come. Thanks for the advice
Matt D Posted December 2, 2015 Author Posted December 2, 2015 Good News!!!I fitted new front and rear sprockets and a new chain and it now runs a lot smoother and quieter. Rear wheel must of been well out also. All adjusted and aligned correctly and ride perfectly. Thanks for the advice chaps 3
