Posted September 16, 20159 yr Hi all has anyone tried to repair this type of speedo? the cable seems fine the drive is working. The needle is not moving and the milage is not moving, any ideas would be gratefully received cheers nigel
September 16, 20159 yr Moderator Unusual to see one fail Nigel,it's normally the cable that breaks...I'd say take the cable off and inspect the inner cable?
September 16, 20159 yr Author hi pauli have taken the cable off the back of the speedo and spun the front wheel and the speedo end of the cable turns. i will have another look maybe the cable end in not locating properly in the speedo.while your about paul do you know if you grease a sprag/starter clutch ?i have to change mine and wanted to know if is should be lubricated ?
September 17, 20159 yr On my FJ the actual spring inside had broken, that meant that the needle didn't move but the mileage counter worked, does your counter work? cos if it does then it's your needle return spring that's broke. You can't fix that I'm afraid it's a new or replacement clock.

October 4, 20159 yr Author Hi all i need some advice!!! I have discovered the cause of my speedo being intermittent. On the DT125X there is a single lug on the hub to drive the speedo gear and guess what mine is missing. i have been getting some movement due to the speedo drive gear rubbing against the hub as the tabs on the drive gear look a little worn. first pic is my hub no lug second pic is how it should be my question is do you think it would be possable to drill the hub and insert a pin. the pin would only be driving the speedo gear so should not be under a lot of strain. any ideas would be great thanks nigel
October 5, 20159 yr Author hi therethe proper part is a new hub/wheel and even second hand your talking a £100 hence looking for advice on a repaircheersnigel
October 6, 20159 yr That's a bit of a bugger isn't it? As Kev says your best bet is a new wheel I'm afraid, drilling that close to the edge of the rim is going to be a nightmare, you could weld an ally tab onto it but not sure how long that would last. Do you know anyone that does ally welding? You could get them to do a build up of weld and then file and grind it back to size but will be a hell of a good welder to get it just right, can't you find a cheap second hand wheel? October 7, 20159 yr Ah , apologies Nigel , I thought you were just missing the large tabbed shim which is used in most speedo drive gears .
October 11, 20159 yr Author Hi allWell i got back from a day at my parents earlier than i thought with an hour of daylight to spare so i whipped my front wheel off. i drilled the rim of the hub with a 1.9mm bit and knocked in a 2mm roll pin leaving in about 2mm proud and jobs a good'un. speedo works perfectly.thanks everybody for there help!!!and a big thank you to paul (airhead) for offering to come round and help.cheers all nigel
