Just a quick intro.

I am a fit 68 yr old and a retired engineer.

My wife and I emigrated to Perth last year to be near our children and grand children

I brought a lathe and other tools with me (my hobby) and started looking for a "project"

I had various old trials bikes in UK but they are thin on the ground in Oz.

Yesterday, I bought a 1984 SR250 off gumtree for $50 (about £25 in UK money)!

It's obviously a wreck, plenty of rust (unusual in Perth) and minus some parts including seat and tank.

I plan to build a "twin shock" trials bike from it for post classic events.

Not seen it done before so should be interesting!

I will endeavour to make as many parts as I can and hope to have it ready for it's first trial in about 12 months

Always interested in doing something different such as increasing the capacity (especially if the bore is worn/siezed) and will be figuring out how to fit a kick start (although push button start would be a novel (if weighty) addition to a trials bike.

Obviously, will need to change wheels, tyres, modify frame etc. etc. (wouldn't have bought it if it didn't need extensive work!)

May even try to make it a dual sport bike for trail riding as well.

So that's me, hope to be able to contribute to the forum as I progress whilst asking for advice as well

Tom

Hi Tom, must rate amongst one of the best intros.

So, welcome to the forum.

I visited Perth whilst in the RN in 1966 although we docked in Fremantle my son was in Perth about a year'ish ago.

So that must mean I'm about your age. But not quite.
