thundercatnovice Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 I have just inherited a Thundercat and it won't start. I have replaced the battery. When I try to start it the engine trys to kick in but it doesn't start. The bike was left standing for a while and started every month, I have been told by a Yamaha dealer that it is likely that carburettor needs draining, how do I do this?
Moderator YamaHead Posted April 9, 2006 Moderator Posted April 9, 2006 to the forum T-Catnovice There's a drain screw @ the bottom of each Carburetor fuel bowl.....with a rag under the carbs to soak up the fuel, just loosen each screw a few turns(NOT all the way out)....till the fuel stops draining....then retighten. Then drain the tank through the petcock until empty. Reattach fuel line to the carbs & refill the tank with fresh petrol. Might wanna clean & gap the spark plugs while you're @ it. Then hopefully she'll cough to life @ start-up
thundercatnovice Posted April 10, 2006 Author Posted April 10, 2006 Thanks for the welcome. Thanks for the advice, I will try it tonight and fingers crossed all will be well
Pete Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 And I'd add a fair bit of Redex carb cleaner into the petrol as it will help to clear out any shit in the fuel system.
