NE0 Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 and more Lol.....you forgot to take the after photo of the rear brake arm
mcferreira100 Posted November 28, 2014 Author Posted November 28, 2014 Haven't done it yet. My arm needs a rest.
Moderator Airhead Posted November 28, 2014 Moderator Posted November 28, 2014 Its all a bit of a con, NEO sussed it he's sharp that one
NE0 Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Yup, you can't pull the wool over my eyes..I've also noticed in the first photos the swinging arm has been attached to the wrong end! 1
mcferreira100 Posted December 2, 2014 Author Posted December 2, 2014 Damn..thought things didn't look right at the back. Electrics going on. Exhaust painted. (filthy job..had to go shower at lunchtime) Rear mudguard support has had a hard life. How`s that for a polished plug cap... Went thru the spare parts..sum good stuff in here. Petcock / new piston / kick arm / various spare rubbers and bulbs / mirrors / flasher unit..etc..etc.
mcferreira100 Posted December 2, 2014 Author Posted December 2, 2014 One of the most crappy jobs..cleaning the 2stroke tank and chainguard. Airbox in. Please note how shiny everything is. 2stroke tank in. Having so much hassle with these front indicator brackets. Paint keeps coming up fulla holes...this after sanding down to bare metal. Anyway after much swearing this is final result...done with this..now they go on. Polished up the hooter.
mcferreira100 Posted December 2, 2014 Author Posted December 2, 2014 Front indicators cleaned up. Back on the bike..don`t like this design..prefer them mounted on the bars.
Moderator Airhead Posted December 2, 2014 Moderator Posted December 2, 2014 god those front indicator mounts are awful...just sayin nothing do do with your work though mcf, shes coming on very nice indeed
mcferreira100 Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 I agree wholeheartedly...what was Yamaha thinking??..or was this some German spin on the design.
Moderator Airhead Posted December 3, 2014 Moderator Posted December 3, 2014 It'll be the german requirement for sure
mcferreira100 Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 Cudnt resist getting mudguards back on (love that short front one) Getting cables cleaned up and back on. [/url Note the shiny rev counter cable Time for before after pic..taillight bracket just pile of rust..just wait.
mcferreira100 Posted December 6, 2014 Author Posted December 6, 2014 Rear wheel done. Headlight back on. Went to visit my engine in hospital. The guy found quite a few bits in the bearings. Tail light on..I see this strange arrangement was to accommodate the load box on the back which I will leave off..angle also sticking up a bit. Going to steal sum new indicator lenses off the 1st 175. New battery. Had to change the connections to get it in.
mcferreira100 Posted December 6, 2014 Author Posted December 6, 2014 Rear wheel on. Black polish on the sidewall goes nice against the chrome. Need to decide what to do with the sidestand..the other 175`s don`t have this bend and its too high off the ground. Think must try some heat and bending it straighter.
mcferreira100 Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 Covers with their polished bolts in.
mcferreira100 Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 So applied some heat and got sidestand a lot straighter..also hammered mounting bracket closed. Now just need to apply some welding as it swings too far forward. Gave carb a clean..looked pretty good inside. Just cleaned up all jets using compression stabilizer and carb cleaner. Cleaned float valve with earbud and brasso..then checked float height (which was spot on). Does anybody have a fix for worn out mirror mounts? Wondering about using plastic steel in there and redrill and tap new thread.
blackhat250 Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Helicoil Mac" ,, is it M10 on your mirrors,,, , looking good BTW,
Moderator Airhead Posted December 9, 2014 Moderator Posted December 9, 2014 Helicoil the left one, you're stuck with the right one though it's a LH thread
UK_DT Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Helicoil the left one, you're stuck with the right one though it's a LH thread LH helicoils are available, but it might be cheaper to get a lever holder off ebay (something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-341-82911-00-00-HOLDER-LEVER-1-1973-RD250-1975-DT175-1978-XS1100-1980-XS8-/221020543456?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3375d9d9e0)
mcferreira100 Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 Whew...busy day..here goes... So fiddling with sidestand. Welded a bit on here to get the angle better. Not very glamorous but does the job. Polished up the spring. GOT MY ENGINE BACK!! What`s been done.. New crank bearings and seals..new small end bearing..new Pro-X piston and rings. Now with 3 coats high heat black on. Noticed something here looks like cracks in the casing. Hope I`m wrong. Engine guy kindly drilled out the broken bolt for me.
