Hi I have a DT125 LC without engine. I know its around an 84 model but I need some more help identifying it, as I want to know what year engine to buy for it. What should I be able to find on the bike to tell me what year engine I need for it?

Any help much appreciated thanx Greg.

There is quite a lot you can do, I guess you have no pics. Sadly there aren't many DT forums out there, although there is some banter and good help on the thumper website (XT500 lads).

My experience is on the DT400 and DT175 range,

Is it 6v or 12v

twin or mono shock

how many positions on the ignition switch two or four

if you look in the headlight, how many bulbs can you see

I guess it has a MDI unit and not points

  • 2 weeks later...

is the swing are tubular or square section ?

is it CDI or point managed ..

does it still have the LH side lighting switch intact

on the left hand side of the bike, just above where the side stand meets the bike, there should be a small silver box, this should be the regulator - does it stanley or anything on it, any part nos ..

under the engine (near kick start) and on the frame (near headstock) there should be some number .. what are the 1st four of them (hopefully they will match)
