Twirly013
After taking my 94 fzr600r for its regular service, my mechanic told me that he is unwilling(at least until it needs doing) to remove my number 3 plug out. His explaination was that the tip of the plug has got caught on the end of the alluminum thread, and if he were to force the plug out then it would remove the entire thread. He told me that this is a common problem with fzr's. Is this a problem anyone else has had, and if so is there anything i can do???
Big Bob
Don't know about FZR's, but used to get same problem years ago on Fiat cars. They had a tool to cut a bigger thread in the head then fitted an insert to take it back to original size. Similar idea to a helicoil but more robust. Had it done on my old Bonneville. Only took 1/2 hour to do the job. I'm sure you can still get the kits somewhere. Hope this helps Big Bob

Admin Alex Posted March 1, 2006 Admin Share Posted March 1, 2006 Yeah make sure you do some practicing before you helicoil it... pretty easy once youve got the hang of it though... had to do nearly all of my bike when i rebuilt it...
Big Bob
We used to cover the tap with grease when cutting the new thread so that no metal cuttings fell into the bore' then blow out with an air line just incase any got past. You would have to be certain no bits stayed in the cylinder. Big Bob
