dt 125 re running problem

Hi guys ive only just bought my bike today and its already running strangely. The bike will start up and run with choke off (down) for about a mile and will then cut out every time i come to a stop, and will only start again with the choke on (up) and will run pretty much spot on.

Im sure that up is on and down is off or have i gotten this wrong? If not what could cause it to only wanna run with choke on? Do i have to adjust the mixture screw with choke off untill it idles well?
