Bolton Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Hi All. Could use a bit of advice with my 2002 DT 175. It had a partial seizure recently and I had it re-bored and installed new piston and rings/ gaskets etc.. It started first time from the repair and I have done maybe 300kms (200miles) on her since. Last week she simply refused to kick start. I had started her normally that morning. She started second or third kick. I then rode her with no problems for about 30 kms and stopped at a friends place for a few hours. Came out and it would not kick start. Checked plug. Seemed to be running rich. Plug wet and black, but she did did spark. I eventually push started her with help from friend. Thick grey smoke came out of exhaust pipe for first few seconds then that stopped and bike ran fine and normally and I rode her home. Yesterday she again would not kick start. I am beyond my level of knowledge here. Anyone got any clues? Cheers All. Bolton
blackhat250 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Hi bolton..i was unaware the there were DT175"s As new as this, Any way,, why did it seize the first time, did you find that problem, ie is the oil pump working,, as i think you are low on compression again,, as its got spark, fuel.. and it did bump start,
Moderator Cynic Posted April 30, 2014 Moderator Posted April 30, 2014 They are were made for Aus, India, china etc till recently John. Have you tried a new plug?
dt502001 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Bet you didnt shut off the gas and it just plain old flooded. When you rebuilt it did yoiu reset the carb after 13 years of bouncing around it could use to be checked.
Bolton Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 Thanks all. Will check all of those. Does anyone know what compression tester should read whilst kicking it over? What are standard factory mixture screw settings on carb? Cheers Bolton.
