Is it right that you can't change a Virago 535 plug leads without having to change the coil ?

This seems very bizarre to me...but that's what I have read ????

Cheers

Yep quite common that the leeds are bonded into the coil and not removable, though I would doubt this is you hard starting problem.Bad leeds would cause problem when wet damp misfires mainly.

Unfortunately that is a "quirk of nature" with bikes, but fortunately they are more weather resistance than car leads. I've never had trouble at all with the leads but a couple of times on the older bikes have had to change the spark plug caps.
