Wiring problems

Good day , I'm a newbe on this forum and I just have a few things to ask , my old battery crapped out so I purchaced a new one and on connecting it up the possitive wire got so hot it started to melt so I connected my multi meter up and found a fault to be from the wires running down to the fly wheel , how can I fix this? Secondly even on connecting the battery the servo doesn't open and close the PV what can I check to get it working , many thanx chaps
