madrevs Posted November 21, 2013 Author Posted November 21, 2013 Thanks have put the castrol in now so will run it and see if it turns grey again hopefully not
madrevs Posted November 22, 2013 Author Posted November 22, 2013 Took out for first ride today after changing oil and when it hits the powerband it sounds like the clutch is slightly slipping
Moderator drewpy Posted November 22, 2013 Moderator Posted November 22, 2013 Would this be the oil causing it I assume you used the motorcycle oil and not car oil?
madrevs Posted November 22, 2013 Author Posted November 22, 2013 Yeh castrol 10w40 4t oil doesnt do it in 1st though
madrevs Posted November 22, 2013 Author Posted November 22, 2013 Engine speed still rises with revs but definetly sounds like its slipping as exhaust sound when gets to power band is alot different to how it was before doesnt sound right
wild foamy Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 If your oil contains Mobylene (spelling?) then chances are its the oil that is making it slip, ideally it needs to be a MOTROBIKE SPECIFIC oil, most regular oils are designed for a dry clutch system such as that you will find in cars, motorcycle clutches are of the wet plate type and will slip if used with a non-specific oil type. Make 100% sure that your oil is certified for motorcycle use, my DT used to slip when i filled it with Castrol car oil. 1
madrevs Posted November 23, 2013 Author Posted November 23, 2013 Yeh its definitely castrol 4t motor bike oil for wet and dry clutchea
madrevs Posted November 25, 2013 Author Posted November 25, 2013 Am going to drain it at weekend and try a better brand of oil
blackhat250 Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Plates my be contaminated with all the crap oils ,, giv it 1 more change .if still slipping then it a strip job,,, be interesting to see if this castrol is now gray,,,
madrevs Posted November 26, 2013 Author Posted November 26, 2013 Drained a bit out today when changing neutral switch was still a nice red colour but clutch didnt slip before but oil was 10w40 not 10e30
2 Wheels Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 The book says 10w30 but I always put in 10w40 Have you tried adjusting cable up at handle bars.
Moderator Cynic Posted November 27, 2013 Moderator Posted November 27, 2013 Crikey. Doom and gloom prevail. Of course old oil in a 2stroke can go grey, its sparkly oil you worry over. Most likely condensation over time and short runs. Maybe a weepy waterpump seal. But that is worst case. Wouldnt worry me any unless the new stuff goes off quick.
madrevs Posted November 28, 2013 Author Posted November 28, 2013 will try adjusting cable to give it a bit more freeplay.seems odd its only started doing it since i changed oil.
