Just recently after redoing the wire harness on my DT the ignition started having problems.

The bike starts just fine, and revs normally up to about 4500 revs, until the ignition starts to cut.

Will only go about 50kmh now since doesnt allow high revs.

I changed the spark plug with no result, and also the ignition coil.

Cleaning the carburator had no result either so I am thinking that t´he magneto is not working right.

Does anyone know what this problem might be since i dont have much experience with the electrics of motorcycles?

If the problem is the magneto, is this a hard job to fix and about how costly?

The clutch reverse bearing is seizeing up best to replace it. Or possibly you rewound the bidirectional ruban in the wrong way.

Can someone please help this guy do the right thing.

No the hammer "INTRO" mangler has come off it's spring. Happens all the time!

Where is this located?

Seems like it would be an easy fix :jossun:

Hi I like a guy with a sense of humour, you should fit in a treat, just one small thing, would you please do an INTRO in the "new members" section before asking for advice, it's polite to say Hi before you start asking strangers for advise. We like new folks to join in and it makes the site more interesting BUT they are expected to say hello first and then ask for info. By the way Welcome to the YOC the more the merrier. :jossun:

See what happens when you start listining to people you don't know THEY CAN MESS WITH YOU.

:chair: Bidirectional ruban is just another way of saying tape  and no such thing as a reverse bearing in the clutch, I have just been messing with you cause you didn't say hello first :welcome: the INTRO spring mangler comming off was just Slice messing with you to do a hello first :biglaugha: no such thing either.

As you have endured our messing with you I won't anymore

Can you tell me more about the bike.Has it been in storage, when was the last time it ran proprely, have you cleaned the carb, when you rewired the bike did you know what you were doing or was this a first attempt. How many miles since a last rebuild.,do the wheels turn freely, will it rev ove 4500 just sitting.

Post a INTRO in the new members section so the rest can say hello back, and give us a wee bit of info about what you can do or can't,just so happen we have a few dt125 fan's here who might be able to give some insight into this,I'm guessing you hooked it up to be restricted if so search the forum for" how to derestrict a dt125" all the info is there.Just a snip of a wire and grounding it.

Don't take it personal this lot messes with eachother all the time just hang around you will get all the info you need.

Yea I did set up an intro after i was told to...

Anyway, I bought the bike for the winter about a month ago.

It had been in constant use and had been working... i guess.

It was rebuilt about 3500 km ago, so the gearbox and clutch should be in good condition.

The only thing that does not work in the bike excluding the ignition is the brakes(the brake disks are bad) and the blinkers :eusa_whistle:

I cleaned the carb with no result... as i suspected as it was clean and the jets were not clogged.

However, i did take the cylinder and piston from a broken down tzr as the old one had no compression...

Worked fine with the tzr cylinder.

After putting in a ignition lock? (the key slot) the lights stopped working as all the wiring was in horrendous condition (MANY wires were cut and some were replaced by scary and random white wiring :eusa_think: )

The wiring was taken out and all the wires were checked with the diagram.

Bad ones were replaced but most of the old wires were kept in use.

At least the lights worked now and made sure the ypvs wiring was fine since it had not been in use.

The bike worked fine for about 1km but then started chopping the ignition...

Was certain it was the spark plug but turned out not to be (nor the ignition coil)

This is where i am at now, and don't know what to do next... :eusa_think:

Re check all ground (earth) wires.

Was the ignition switch new or used?

are the signals working now you fixed the wireing?

Checking and sanding the grounds made no difference...

The ignition switch was used, but seems to work fine. When power is switched off, it is off, and when on, it is on.

The blinkers do not work since the front blinkers themselves are broken... have yet to buy new ones. I dont think the rear blinkers should work if the front ones are not hooked :eusa_shifty:?

The bike may take a bit over 4500 rpm in neutral (based on the sound since the tachometer doesn's work, forgot to mention that)

This bike doesn't have the green/black wire behind the speedo so im guessing this model doesn't have that restriction. And im not sure it would make a difference since doesn't that restrict the ypvs and its not in use right now :eusa_think:

I have a broken down tzr 125 (year roughly 1990).

Im thinking of taking the magneto from this and putting it on the dt...

Does anyone know if they have the same magneto?

And what size flywheel remover is required to remove the flywheel?

  • 2 weeks later...

Okey...

I took apart the magneto from the DT.

It was different than the TZR magneto :(

I also noticed that on the DT stator, two of the three coils were hand made :eusa_doh:

Im guessing this could be the problem but it did work fine before redoing the electrics.

Anyway, I cleaned everything in the magneto and put it back together.

Then, I tried to start the bike...

The kickstart was jammed and the tire would not rotate even when trying to start downhill :eusa_doh:

Could rotating the flywheel somehow have jammed the engine somewhere?

Doesn't seem likely but haven't worked with bikes too much so u never know...
