Posted July 13, 201311 yr I kept getting white smoke from my bike. It would start initially ok but as soon as i apply throttle and anytime afterward i would get white smoke. It rode ok but the smoke clouds are a real worry so i have gone about taking the engine out the bike to replace head gaskets and possibly the piston. I have done everything else the manual suggested it might be without needing to take the engine out. Problem is i can't put my stand under the bike as the whole rear end will drop once i take out the bolt connecting the swingarm to the engine. to do this i need to remove the downpipe but it just wont seperate from the silencer. i have had a friend try pulling from the opposite end at it's just jammed in with no give. The seal around it is all crumbly too so i am guessing this has something to do with it. Any suggestions as to what to do? i am going to replace the silencer anyway as it is a rusty piece of crap too. I don't have any tools apart from your average ratchet and spanner kit etc. so no engine harness and no circular saw to get rid of the old silencer as my mate suggested
July 13, 201311 yr Author http://db.tt/dYUWZzz5 that's a picture of the exhaust. I have changed the oil and it didn't change anything. I have emptied the breather tanks which had loads of oil in them so I thought that was the issue but it wasn't. It's definitely a top end issue either valve seals, gasket or piston rings but the issue is removing this exhaust pipe
July 13, 201311 yr Moderator in the piture is that some sort of ring that needs to be undone first? yeah it sounds like the head gasket is the problem to me too...white smoke = steam...on a watercooled engine
July 13, 201311 yr Author yeah the ring was undone but the seal needed freeing up. I ended up just scraping at the seal and I opened the ring up completely rather than just loosening it like the book said. Finally got the engine out and about to start the strip down of the top end. its an air cooled engine so can only be oil burning. Thanks. Will keep posted on the progress. http://db.tt/BDF2of6yhttp://db.tt/PiKalxm2http://db.tt/fQvRCiYd
