Hey all - my name is Dave and I just aquired a 1991 Yamaha XJ600s "Seca II" w/ 2800 miles. It's been in storage for a while - needs a carb clean and going over.

It's my #2 bike - as I've restored a 1983 Suzuki GR650 that is my daily rider.

I'm looking at the "Seca II" as my budget sport tourer,

and will get a set of soft bags for it after it's running -

and do some extended trips next year.

Anyway - great to find the club...will scout around for info on my new bike.

Welcome Dave. Good choice!

That Suzuki looks very clean indeed. Be sure to post some pics of the Seca when it's in the same condition!

Nice score on your Seca there. B) ...looks like it's got loads of potential ;)

I've been an XJ advocate for a good while...(even though I currently ride an XT now)

I rode this 1st generation Seca daily for 13 years......

THANKS ALL - I've always admired the SECAs -

and then this one was too good to pass up.

Factory date is 10/91, sold to original owner in 1993 from dealer -

then 2800 miles and 12 years later I got my hands on it.

It's hard not to keep peaking at it in my garage.... :D

Hi & welcome from a Divvy 600 owner (UK equivalent). I thought I had done well finding a '92 model with only 4,500 miles on it but you have beaten that!

The fairing lowers and Givi rack were fitted when I bought the bike, I have just added the top box.

:) You can't go wrong with the Seca II if it is anything like the 1982 Yamaha Seca 650.

I had mine from (new) 1982 until 1996 ,using it very hard,mercilessly,in fact.

Nothing ever went wrong, but the rearsuspension "killed" my spine.

Upon buying a 1996 BMW R11ooR to ease the jabs up my back, I passed the Seca on to a friend who still rides it.

Tires, Battery, steeringhead bearings.... that's it.

Some day he'll have to take a sledgehammer to it, to justify buying a new bike.

And, My God, that headlight!

Funny thing, my wife's bike was a Suzuki Tempter, 1983.

A bit of electrical problems, but a sweet and gentle machine.

Needless to say, I am still with Yamaha... 2002 FZ1 in blue :D

Hi Dave, as the owner of an xj600n (like yours but without the fairing) can I compliment you on your excellent taste!!

I saw a very similar conditioned/coloured bike on ebay I don't suppose you were the lucky winning bidder. When I saw that one I looked at it for ages...very nice to the eye!!

One thing puzzles me with mine is that when it's on the centre stand the back wheel is either touching or very close to the road. I wonder does yours do the same so maybe it's an 'xj thing' or maybe mine's f***ed but it seems ok to me :unsure:

Anyway I'm sure you are enjoying your bike as I enjoy mine - they're good fun. I'm off now for a ride now, cheers. :)

I just fitted a center stand from a Divvy - shipped from England of course

(that part is very hard to find in the states).

And YES- the rear tire is only lifted about an inch or so on the stand.

I'm just happy to have it on ANY stand -

taking a bike apart without one would be painful.

Suprised it was not standard but an option for these bikes.

The fairing, cowling and tank are now off. Rusty crud in the old gas removed. Carbs clogged for sure.

Rear brake is grabbing - keeping tire from running freely.

Starting carb cleaning and tank rust removal treatment, and overall clean/lube/adjust.

Then new battery, oil & filter and should be ready to go.

Nope my XJ was a private sale -

a friend had it in his garage since new...

barely used and untouched the last few years -

waited till the right time (took 2 years) till he sold it to me.
