Moderator drewpy Posted June 13, 2013 Moderator Share Posted June 13, 2013 got new AM26 tyres for the FZ and am going to eventually get the bike all done in Gulf colours. not sure whether to paint or powder-coat the wheels Pros - powder coat = £90 and its all done for me paint cheaper, but I'll have to do do it Cons - heat may affect the alloy wheel paint chips easily but with powder, corrosion underneath may go undetected. what do you guys think? Tommy xs
paint, cheap, as chips and easy to redo if it does (chips that is)

Moderator drewpy Posted June 18, 2013 Author Moderator Share Posted June 18, 2013 changed my mind again after speaking with my tyre guy. he recommends powder as it will be tough, help seal the inner rim and he reconds that the hot brake dust embeds into the Paint laquer which you can't remove unless a repaint. so I asked Matt Caulfield for recommendations and he put me into touch with Ashton powder coat. went round and what a professional outfit. Very clean efficient, staff were courteous. The business partner, Christine showed me samples of their work (which was amazing) cost was the cheapest I've seen at £30 a wheel with a powder lacquer on it too. they do chrome, candy etc etc well chuffed and its fairly local to me too www.ashtonpowdercoating.co.uk/
