Hi,

I'm new to the site and wondered if anyone could help me at all.

I am restoring/bobbing a 1980 XS250 and am looking for an exhaust. As far as I can tell/know, the XS400 and 250 engines are very similar.

Does anyone know if an XS 400 exhaust fit an 250 at all?

Also, I'm going to lower the back end from 350mm which is what are on there at the mo to probably 280mm. Are the mounting sizes a universal size or will I have to buy some shocks especially for the XS250?

If anyone could help me I would be very greatful.

Cheers, it is very much appreciated.

Joe

hey joe your in the right place! so far as I can remember the exhausts are the same, don't know about shock's,

Drewpy is the guy to talk to, there's not much he doesn't know about XS's. he's off line right now but i'm sure he'll be along

250 exhausts will fit either 400 or 250's. the engine are physically the same.

for shocks just buy what takes your fancy bearing in mind that you need shocks with eyes on both ends to fit a 12mm bolt/stud.(measure to double check)

watch you don't go too low or the wheel will rub inside the mudguard

don't forget to let us know how you get on Joe

Hi lads,

I picked up the exhaust today and fitted it but looks like it doesn't quite fit right?

It's all butted up and nice and tight but there is a bit of a gap in between the collar and the engine. Not sure if it's right or not?

I noticed you have the inverted collars. I have an NOS set if you fancy splashing out :)

Haha I've spent too much on the bike already drewpy, Whats the difference?

the collars you have there are widest to the front. the majority have them the other way round
