Please help me compare muffler size for '72 LS3 (compared to '75 RS100). And, how are these things repacked??

Hi there. The 1972 LS3 100 muffler assembly is part number 336-14710-00, but I cant find that anywhere.

The '75 RS100 muffler assembly is 463-14710-10 or 463-14710-50

I've been able to work out from the part diagram that they both use the same muffler joint to connect the muffler to the exhaust pipe, so I know they are the same diameter..they also both use the identical muffler stay (336-14771-00) they also look very similar, but not identical.

I was hoping that someone with a RS100 muffler could measure it up for me so I can confirm that it will fit. I guess i need the distance from the front bolt to the first bolt that connects to the muffler stay.

Also, I guess the distance to the stopper at the back.

or, I wonder if there are any LS3 mufflers available?

The reason I'm looking for one is that I'm finding it very difficult to clean my old one. I've removed the silencer, and pulled out all the old packing. But I don't really see a way to repack the muffler? .. it's not like there are rivets or screws, in fact the muffler is kind of a sealed unit? ... how is the packing replaced in these things?

.. also.. sorry one more question, what is a good practice to decoke the muffler? .. it's chrome so I can't really burn it off?

Thanks so much for your help.

Regards Steve
