Hi all,

My thundercat is now pissing me off.....

I like to think that I'm quite mechanically astute, I do all the work to my bikes and cars myself and have built a mobylette in the past (I can't remember why!).

My thundercat was working fine all last week, and when I came to start it yesterday the lights came on (as if its in first gear) without any ignition sound. I've charged the batteries, checked a number of fuses and still can't see a problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Its doing my head in, there are no obvious issues with side stand switch or anything like that...

Had a panic moment with mine when this happened. Turned out it won't start when in gear if the kickstand is down, Even if you have the clutch pulled in. Gave me the same warning oil/fuel light flash every time I hit the starter. Kickstand up and voila.... we have zoom zoom.

I do have a neutral light...... I've just replaced the start relay but its still just flashing up on the dash as if the kill switch is on!.... Hmmm

And it did this before the new relay....?

To me if its saying the stand is down then thats where i start. Dissconect the switch and make or brake the connection as req. If it runs then start as far from the sw as poss then work to it to isolate the issue.

My bikes are to old for all this interfeering junk. Shame.......NOT.

Yea it did it before the new relay. Strangely I can still bridge the relay with a screwdriver and the starter motor spins - so I'm no convinced it's related to the side stand or kill switch, though may be wrong.

Unfortunately I bought the bike because it was old (and therefore mechanically easy to work on), didn't realise it would still have electrical stuff to annoy me. Can't complain though, its the first issue I've had in 30,000 miles!

Take a test light and see if the small wire has power at the solenoide while the start button in perssed, then check 30 for power at the relay all the time, 87(feed to selonide) when button is pressed 86 when button is pressed and 85 for ground.

30 feeds 87 when 86 is powerd by the button ( to close the relay)and grounded by 85 the ground,,85 or 86 can be intrupted by the side stand and netural switch via the cdi

. 87--- 85I I30

86 I 87a I 85 or if it looks like this 87a I

30 I 87 I I 86

Bridging the solenoide is just like feeding the starter direct battery power so that proves nothing other than the starter is good.

Useing a jump wire with the bike in nutral jump 30 to 87 the bike should turn over and start ,then that leaves 85 and 86 to sort out, Relay back in disconnect the side stand switch and see if it will start if not connect the 2 wires together and see if it will start,if still not disconnect the kill switch. Its just a process of elimination untill you find the problem.

Hope this helps

Does this model have a Clutch switch as these can get water ingress and can cause problems.
