Hey everyone,

I bought my second dt lanza after my first one ( perfect condition) was stolen out of my backyard at night.

I struggled in the beginning with a lot less power than my first bike had and a so called mechanic here told me its just because of the compression and that a piston ring change would solve the problem. So he did this and it was a lot better, until today....

Luckily I was just going around in town, when the engine made a different and not so pleasing noise, I switched into neutral and then the engine died, when I tried to kick start it, the starter didn't let me kick it, there is just a stop and I'm afraid that the piston ring broke and fell into the cylinder.

I have a friend coming from germany in 2 weeks time, but I'm unable to find a piston set for the dt lanza on the internet.

I would like to get everything, because I couldn't open the cylinder so far, that I can see what is really broken and what not. But to be on the save side I would like to get a piston, piston rings, sleeves and the thing between the sleeves and the cylinder to stop the oil from leeking out, sorry I'm not a mechanic and don't know what it is called in particular.

Do you know if I can get a piston set from a dt 125 or a tt 230 to fix my lanza or maybe something from another bike to get it working?

Or does someone knows a shop where I could order a fitting set?

I would really appreciate any tips, because I have to bring in the spare pars from outside tanzania. Here there are no genuie spare parts available.

Thanks !

Dont know if it would fit per se but the lanza and the dt175mx share the same bore size.

As to pin dia. Deck height etc i can give you the numbers for the 175 as i have a couple in bits in the garage.

You will need to check yours to see if it will go.

yeah that would be great, thanks!

As I opened the engine today, I saw that a part of the piston is completely broken loose and into pieces probably fallen into the crank shaft. So my second question would be if I can just get another engine from a yz 250 or something. Maybe I could get a rebuild one in south africa and a friend could bring it up when he gets stuff from there anyway.

I couldn't take a look at the crank, because I couldn't dismount the left part of the engine, it looks like I need a spexial tool for that. Maybe I can post a picture here and someone knows

The Yamaha parts number for the standard piston rings for the 230 Lanza are 4TP-11631-00-00

What does this mean Mike, a screw inside of what?

Yes, there is a bold or a screw inside, I cannot get out.

I was trying to see if pieces felt down from the broken piston, but therefor I have to disassemble the whole bottom and probably have to take out the whole engine.

Thanks, I'm not really sure that this will be enough, because the piston itself is broken and fell into the shaft.

But are there still parts available for the 175mx? I asked a mechanic in germany and he said, they can't order parts for the lanza itself

I stand corrected, his issue was with a DT200WR, but he had the same difficulty because he's in Iran!

I am surprised that you cannot get the part in Germany though...very surprised at that!

Hey!

sorry for the late reply, I was quite busy at work and had to check with some guys in germany to order parts.

And yes, they are available, I don't know where or what I was looking for the last time, but I called a bunch of shops and yamaha dealers and they told me the parts are not available. Anyway, I found a yamaha dealer, who could order a piston and rings for me, but I probably have t get a new cylinder head as well and the bearings I didn't even checked yet.

The piston itself would come directly from Japan and they could then send it to Tanzania. So double VAT and import taxes. In Germany only the piston would be 160 Euro (~ $200) and I'm still waiting to get the prices for the cylinder and piston rings, gaskets, etc.

I'm not totally convinced yet to spend $600 dollars (+ import taxes and VAT in Tanzania) on the bike or if I should just take the cylinder head to Dar Es Salaam, let it be honed and get a cheaper piston and rings. But I read somewhere, that the DT Lanza has some kind of chromium inside the cylinder, which makes it easy to make it total kaputt / kack because aluminium cylinder and steel piston, friction or something, sorry not a technician.

And even if the guy can hone it, where do I get the gaskets from in Tanzania?

Damnit! :sigh2:
