Sadly my YBR-125 was stolen last night 09/01/13 in Northfleet, Kent area (between Gravesend & Dartford), it disappeared around 1700-1820. The colour of the bike is Black with the stock factory red decals and a black puig windscreen fitted, the reg is: LV62 ACX, I would of had it only 2months from factory from today so it is very dissapointing. If anyone has any details or could put this up on any forums it would be appreciated! Just to sum up:

Make: Yamaha
Model: YBR 125
Colour: Black/Red
Registration: LV62 ACX
Area: Northfleet, Kent
Date of theft: 09/01/13 1700-1820

Bike had chain through front wheel with lock elivated. Kent police wern't to intrested, however I found a FB group where someone with the same bike and a 62plate had there's stolen Friday just gone, very strange. I've contacted them with no luck to see how they are getting on.

P**sed doesn't do it justice I would of only had it two months and only on second payment, now I need to settle my finances.

Set up a saved ebay search with daily email, but there's to many places to look so if anyone notices anything suspicious on gumtree etc around Dartford and Gravesend in Kent, let me know.

If the chain and that was on it don't worry about your finances too much as if you declared on your insurance that you use it and your covered for TPFT then they will pay out for you, if how ever you didn't use the chain or your only covered for TP only then fraid you be fucked.

Chain was used and insurance was third party plus fire and theft, chain and lock has gone with the bike.

From what I understand, payout will take some time as they usually have about a 6 week cool down period before payout, encase it reappears. I've still got to pay off the bike through finance and then there's paying off the excess and remainder of insurance as I was only 2months in, after making a claim I understand you have to still pay insurance for that year. Be a while till I get a new bike. Plus remortgage coming up. Not the best time for things to go wrong.

What I am going to do is rebuild the tiny front porch/garden I have and level it out to street level and put two anchors in, flood light with PIR and maybe a mini CCTV system rather than keeping it in the road for next bike.

Anyone have experience with using the disc brake alarms and the mini sim card trackers, are they any good as I know they draw a small amount of current?

Thanks for the support everyone and keep spreading the word encase it does reappear.

Id just put the one anchor in, but position it to the back wheel of the bike. Front wheels can be unbolted with the chain intact, or lifted slightly and the whole bike wheeled away.

Ive used a Xena alarm disc lock for nearly 2 years.

Plus point:

  • compact
  • loud
  • fairly robust

Neg points:

  • Need to keep the sensors clean
  • can be very sensitive to light movement (wind, a lorry going past ect)

Ive had 2 XX-6's but they kept malfunctioning, Xena were very helpful, but after a new alarm module and another one malfunctioning i gave up and tried a XZZ-6 which so far hasn't had any issues (about 6 months old)

Also look into getting your next bike data tagged

Good luck.

Really sorry to hear about this. It must be devastating. Have you taken any action yourself and gone around asking near by areas if they have seen anything? If there are shops nearby with CCTV cameras and if you've got a rough idea the thieves went in that direction, you could ask the shop owner if he is willing to look back at the footage. Good places would be petrol stations, assuming these thieves haven't an ounce of a brain. Gets harder if they van'd your bike. I know this is really for the police to deal with but they aren't really the fastest and by the time they actually make an enquiry, it's probably too late.

As tgsm7 stated, best way would have been through the back wheel and if you've got a long enough chain you can put it through the actual frame for an extra piece of mind.

Just a question about data tagging, is it really worth it? For what it claims to be, the price isn't too bad (around £70 on Amazon). I'd think the most effective piece in their kit would be the visual deterrent and if the price of the full kit is too much, you could probably get the tamper proof label off eBay or something.

Hopping there is a happy ending and you are reunited with your bike again. Best of luck.

  • 2 months later...

I've ended up getting a chinese bike to last me till summer for the full test when i turn 24 as I lost a heavy amount on the insurance policy, I've also ended up building a mini drive with two underground anchors latticed together by steel and 40N cement.

And the new chinese whip which I'm more than bound to get abuse about :eusa_doh:http://xtrsproject.wordpress.com/

Its a Lexmoto XTR-S 125

The hub issue was a pain, but the bolts are locked in using a bent linking mechanism, that stops the bolts from spinning loose, but the rear of the hub has nothing of that nature as they are just to cheap to buy some locking nuts to begine with. Sam with the nuts that hold the carb in, same nonsense. Its shocking what most manufacturers would do to make bike A B or C cost £5 less on a huge production line. Luckily I have plenty of tools from working on cars etc... so doing it wasn't too bad. So far its not gone to bad, but early days. I've not spent more than £150 tuning it up a tad as in its stock form it was awful, it handles better than the YBR but I do miss the YBR's engine, that thing would sail all day 70-80mph on a 13T front sprocket.

Just glad our standards to meet the DOT are higher here, for the most part the chineese still can't build a bike good enough to pass and be road leagle here. But what can you expect for a bike that looks close but at 1/2 the priceof course they cut corners to make it.

I just hope the rest of the bolts don't fall out and kill you,Because some Fn dick stole your YBR

O ya check the welds every(,eps the rear shock mounts) so often I'v seen them snap too often on different chinese bikes

I've been keeping a close look at everything, the welds are okay, pretty messy, but I will be repainting the entire rear arm as the paint work is as good as modern cars now.

But I know what you means, at 18 I bought at golf GTI, at 21 when I was expecting a daughter, I went out and bought a house. So I've always worked hard but as usual there's someone stupid enough to steal from the hard working. I've done a bit of welding, but whats shocking is these bikes come as a kit to a dealer that resellers them of, in this case lexmoto sells the bikes. But TBH the way the dealer assembled the front of the bike was shocking, the warranty is rubbish, so I wish I just ordered it Ikea flat packed and done it myself as I had to scrutinize it on the first day of ownership as them monkeys didn't do up the front very well or apply any grease in areas where you would expect. For this reason I decided to ditch the warranty and deal with things myself as they come, I did do alot of homework before I got this one as it did seem to be the best build quality out of the other chinese stuff on the market. I'm always looking on the FB pages encase I can see a common problem. But what really annoys me is how the manufacturers charge an extortionate amount for some parts, IE they wanted £70 for a chinese 30mm carb, I got a brand new Mikuni 30mm for £25, again same thing with many other common parts like front sprockets they want £10 a sprocket, I found a bike that shares the same sprocket for £5 and so on.... Other parts are not to bad. The engine is the only thing people really praise, not as refined as the yammy engine but it will do, if the bike falls apart the engine will end up on my daughters go kart that I am planning to build, so thats my back up plan haha.
