FZR1000 RU EXUP strength?

Hi their folks I am basicly thinking about turbo charging my FZR1000 ru exup 1992. I would like to know does any one know of anyone who has dont this befor? I am curious as to what sort of max power/force the conrods and crank can take? Also if people who do these type upgrade usually touch the transmition with such like stronger clutch baskets straight cut gears etc.? From what I know I think the crank should be good for like 500+ BHP but Im more interested in rods etc.

Just give you guys bit of back ground info (to try and prevent annoying comments) on me I am a qualifed technican I have worked in garages doing every thing from sevicing lawnmowers to engine rebuilds on Tractors and just about everything inbetween. I currently working as a motorcycle tech' I have workin in fabrication/manufacturing shops too and am qualified fabrictor with exspericence milling and working with lathes. So basicly I am not a total spanner going oooo turbo.

The setup I intend to use is stock motor with wiseco fordged pistons boring it out to 1040cc, head spacer to drop compression, gas flow head, posible kent fast road cam, ITB's (not decide off what yet got some measurement and calculatons to do first), custom EFI controll system prob include in that the controll of the wasted spark system would like to use stock if i can andvance it enough to prevent detonation, custom pipe work, not 100% set on turbo yet but thinkin a garret gt28, uprated valve spring, uprated clutch springs and plates pos slipper clutch when funding allows, thinking no intercooler due to location and the turbos cooling system, addition of oil cooler, no uprated oil pump, plum the oil return staight to sump. If turbo ends up too low then obviously it will get a scavenge pump. Think thats most of it.

Any constructive comments/tips/recomendations welcomed.

Clever heads to pick. Richard at TTS. Towcester Tuning Services. If your serious he will talk you through all of it. I think he had a hand in Jack Frosts wheelie record bike. Amongst others. He is one of streetfighters go to guys. They will not compromise.

As to the plan, surely low comp forged pistons will be far stronger than a spacer. Billet rods with a welded trued and balanced crank for the bottom. Whether a billet crank would be a better bet. Thats big money though.

A lock up clutch too to handle the oomph.

How will you fuel it. Blown carb? Injectors? That might be good. Nick the electrics from an r1 and re map....

Er got carried away.........must stop. Looks like fun, expensive but fun...

Thanks for the recomendations I will draw up my plans get it all wrote up then contact those guys i reckon.

The i was going to use wiseco forged pistons as i have a trade account with them, but these pistons when fitted set the compression ratio to 12:1 (i understand this is stock) so I was going to fit a ally head spacer between the head and the block with gasket either side. By my calculations If i fit these with pistons and fit the following spacers it will result in the compression ratio lowering to the ratios followed, 0.1inch spacer = 7.76:1 0.07 inch spacer 8.7:1 thinkin the latter one as i dont want to drop the ratio too much as i dont intend on running mad boost presures to get mad power (thow my mate thinks im a nut job for wanting to do this :crazy:) .

Incase you havent dealt with head spacers they are basicly a pice of ally like the head/block mechined out to the same shape as the block/head then fitted between the head and block this will incrase the size of combustion chamber which inturn will lower the compression ratio.

At the moment I am trying to find out were I can get some forged conrods from and the crank well if these two componants can cope with 300BHP i will just fit new bearing shells.

As far as fueling im thinking of using a custom ecu system that I can program fueling maps to and the system im looking at also has the ability to control the spark ignition system, I can use it to controll boost presure too i belive i can also use it to set twin maps so i can have a switch on the bars to basicly have say a low power and full power mode make it bit more rideable when just popping to the shops :-) I will be using a set of throttle bodies of a motorbike but have not decided which ones yet got to measure up my carbs/head which is my job over xmas while i clean and blance them up.

my intention is to keep the cost as low as posible I think bigest exspense will be the turbo (if i buy a brand new one might do 2nd hand/recon) Im hopping to get it built for no more than £3000 depending on turbo plus time sat on the dyno tweaking the fueling. The only thing I will not be doing is boreing out the block (dont have tools for that unfortunatly :cry2: ) obviously if i need fordged conrod and crank mod it will cost more same with if i need to uprate the injectors in the throttle bodies.

Oh and then It will prob cost me £100,000 to insure it as I am only 24 years old :eusa_doh:

If their is any one who would like me to post some of my calculations so they can check them/advise on ratios please just pop a message on and i will post them up but as for now Im off sleep got to go work in few hours :eusa_shifty:
