I have a couple of projects running simultaneously but the RaZoR is the main show. Other projects are mainly to relieve the frustration when this build is stalled.

Back in the day I was seduced from the four-stroke mainstream by LC and then RZ Yamahas. I followed on with later iterations of Yamaha's two-stroke, twin cylinder offerings but the '83 RZeds are my alltime favourite bike. Exciting to ride, simple to work on - what more does anyone need?

It turns out that what you want can become more important than needs.

To that end I have started to build my ultimate homage to the RZ. Same looks, but tidied up some, and more horsepower.

The plan is to add a motor to this, based on new Banshee cases, stroked and bored as far as the cases will allow.

Whether my ambitions for this bike are beyond my capacities only time will tell!

I've been collecting parts for a while; the only major parts outstanding are the chambers and a radiator. With a bit of luck the chambers will arrive before the new year and I'll be able to start on the body work..

The damper works really well because it has three different adjustment to tailor its response to your requirements.

AndyDtr08 - undergoing a bit of a hiatus with the RaZoR at the moment as the engineer building the chambers has possession of the interesting bits!

The photo below gives an indication of where I'm heading. It shows the frame (before additions) with crankcase, barrels, etc., fitted to check clearances.

The cases are from Banshee machined to accept Calvin Pollet barrels with a 73mm bore. The carbies are Keihin FCRs. The crank being fitted has been stroked 4mm.

73mm bore with 4 mm stroke what will the final cc be then? whats the advantage with banshee cases?How does the power valve work on thoes barrels?

This is a cool build and can't wait to see more I miss my rz.

AndtDtr08 - CP Industries manufacture monoblocks in a range of bore/stroke combinations for the ATV crowd in the USofA:

dt502001 - The extra 4mm stroke (to 58mm) with the 73mm bore gives 485cc. I don't think Banshee cases have any particular advantage; I just didn't want to risk building this rather extreme motor on second-hand cases. The power valve is still being developed, but it is a throttle controlled blade type.

There are still some detail design issues to resolve, but the direction ahead is (mostly!) known.

After looking at cp's site realy makes me think about finding another rz and trying a 600 cc,the rz 500 only made @ 85 hp and it was a weapon in it's day. aa 600cc sholud be able to top that.

Any rough Hp figuers for your build?What rods are you using? and what if anything have you done with the crank to beef it up.?

My rz was .040 over toomy pipes and intake and it would top 135 mph I can only imagine what a 485cc would be like.

I see that billet are cases now available for building up on,but i didn't find any cranks yet any leeds on one?

dt502001 - There are many options from CPI (and others) for building large capacity twins on Banshee cases but there is a snag when using for a bike rather than for an ATV.

They mostly have no power-valve system. This results in a sluggish mid-range with a sudden, vicious rush of power at the top. Some can be set up with a vacuum operated, guillotine-type power valve but this makes matters worse as they have a time-lag between throttle movement and valve operation. This can be tolerated with an ATV or a drag bike but would make a bike super difficult to ride.

I'm not much interested in Hp numbers as such, as I am aiming for as wide a power delivery as possible and not a narrow peak kind of motor. That said, I would be surprised and somewhat disappointed if something in the vicinity of 90 Hp wasn't achieved.

New cranks are available from several sources but it is most critical that they are set up perfectly and are modified to achieve the best balance possible. I will post more on crank issues if you want but it will take some time before I can ferret through my files.

Chambers won't be ready before the new year but they are looking beautiful so far.

I will be able to retain the centre stand and have enough clearance to fit 18 inch wheels:

One of the TDR forum lads has a banshee motor in his. Could be a place to tag for motor info. Cant rmember what his forum name is. Search banshee and it should pop up.

I know at squires he was running lower than peak power as the bhp may only be 80 odd but the torque is off the charts and kills cranks. Dont think he is using pv either. For rideability he has a wide tune.

im watching this thread with interest, looks like its going to be a weapon when its finished :), there doesnt look like theres much clearance between those pipes and the front wheel though, is that just a mock-up fit or will that be the case with the final assembly?

By rideability i think its the choice between wheelspin or wheelies. Now it just wheelies a lot.

Anybody riding a banshee has to be slightly damaged.....
