jfj Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 I have a 1976 yamaha xs360 and it won't start. The bike has only 2500 miles and was store for about 20 years, but it was running after that. I've being upgrading the bike and now it has weak & interrupted spark. When I tried to start the bike I discover that the right ignition coil is overheating. It did the same thing with the previous ignition coil and that was the reason why I replace it, but it's still the same. I have install new ignition coil, cables, spark plug . I tried to fix the problem with the timing and points but still the same. I would like to know if the problem is the regulator, starter relay or condenser. Does anybody has any idea on how to resolve my problem? I need help please don't know what else to do Thank you
Moderator Cynic Posted November 16, 2012 Moderator Posted November 16, 2012 It will help if you pop onto the new members area and introduce yourself. There are several very experienced xs owners on here that will be happy to help. Once you have introduced yourself It is best keeping to one thread per subject. Gets very confusing otherwise. Can't help with your problem but you should get it sorted. Welcome.
Moderator drewpy Posted November 16, 2012 Moderator Posted November 16, 2012 i'd try the condensor first as that will give you those symptoms. coils over heat due to the electrical build up within the primary coil and acts like an electric bar fire. they need to transfer that energy to the secondary coil and thus into the spark plug.
