lizard Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Hello everyone. Just joined the club and need some advice. Been riding and wrenching bikes since the sixties so I'm not new to bikes but just bought my first Yamaha IT400 (1977). Trying to set the ignition timing after a top end re-build. Using the Clymer manual and very confusing! Manual says to line up timing marks on rotor with timing mark on crankcase and the only mark is deep inside cover and really hard to see. Also shows only one timing mark on rotor and there is three marks. (I am assuming the center mark is TDC, left mark is BTDC, and right mark is ATDC.) Can anyone spell out the timing procedure for me? Really want to get this monster running! Thanks for any help on this. Lizard
Moderator Airhead Posted October 4, 2012 Moderator Posted October 4, 2012 I think the centre mark is dead on correct and the other two are the + - tolerance marks, they are either side and shorter than the central mark arent they? Greetings lizard and this forum is really just for intros my friend

Sacha Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Welcome aboard Lizard. I see Airhead's been helping you sort the timing issue. You're in good hands.
