I'm looking for some help with this for a mate...

The bikes a yamaha xt125x 2006, the last time it was rode he covered 100 miles in a downpour, put the bike away, a week later turned the key and the battery area started smoking, switched off the ignition the rectifier wire is melted, sorted the wiring out and now the bike starts but will only idle if you rev it it dies, any ideas ?

does it have a carb?

if so try draining the float bowl
