s-price13 Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 What's the easiest way to tell the difference between 1973 ct3 175 and 1973 dt75?
nayruf Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Hi Other than the frame/engine no. I think the CT3 exhaust runs along the left (oops I meant right) side of the bike and the DT has an exhaust that crosses over the top of the cylinder head
s-price13 Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 I'm restoring it so ordering parts is an issue Dvla say it's a dt175 I believe it to be a ct3 The frame and engine start with ct1
Moderator Cynic Posted July 18, 2012 Moderator Posted July 18, 2012 As in CT1-300004 onwards if so its a Dt, otherwise its a CT.
s-price13 Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 Hi Fair play your right with the engine number mine is after what you quoted How do you know that please? When I look at the battery tray it's the small for 3 cell 6v battery like the ct3 Dt175 has a longer battery 6 cell?
s-price13 Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 Hi Just had an email from a bike shop My engine number starts with CT1-300 8 Here is the relevant section from the Yamaha frame code book: CT1 000101- 251 CT1 69 CT1 303101-310000 458 DT175 74 CT1 310101-400000 458 DT175 75 So my bike is a CT3?
Moderator Cynic Posted July 19, 2012 Moderator Posted July 19, 2012 From what i know the Dt came into being proper early 73. That number kicks off the 73 bikes although things weren't definite back then to say the least. The bikes are pretty much the same, only really obvious switch was the tailpipe swapping sides. With some having a different tank shape. A pic would help a lot.
s-price13 Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 Can not paste pic on ere Give me your email and I could post
Sacha Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Check the FAQ section for help posting pics too. You'll have to upload them to photobucket first.

Sacha Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 No worries! Glad you got it sorted. Looks like a great bike. Not the first time (and likely not the last) that I'll say it, but I love the look of these classic bikes.
s-price13 Posted July 21, 2012 Author Posted July 21, 2012 So can anyone help please Is this bike a ct3 yamaha 175 or a Dt 175?
Moderator Cynic Posted July 21, 2012 Moderator Posted July 21, 2012 I'm going with CT due to what looks in the photo the 18"front wheel. Uk dt models have a 21.
s-price13 Posted July 23, 2012 Author Posted July 23, 2012 Someone could ave put a 21" front wheel on it?
