Posted July 18, 201212 yr What's the easiest way to tell the difference between 1973 ct3 175 and 1973 dt75?
July 18, 201212 yr Hi Other than the frame/engine no. I think the CT3 exhaust runs along the left (oops I meant right) side of the bike and the DT has an exhaust that crosses over the top of the cylinder head
July 18, 201212 yr Author I'm restoring it so ordering parts is an issue Dvla say it's a dt175 I believe it to be a ct3 The frame and engine start with ct1
July 19, 201212 yr Author Hi Fair play your right with the engine number mine is after what you quoted How do you know that please? When I look at the battery tray it's the small for 3 cell 6v battery like the ct3 Dt175 has a longer battery 6 cell?
July 19, 201212 yr Author Hi Just had an email from a bike shop My engine number starts with CT1-300 8 Here is the relevant section from the Yamaha frame code book: CT1 Â Â 000101- Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 251 Â Â CT1 Â Â 69 CT1 Â Â 303101-310000 Â Â 458 Â Â DT175 Â Â 74 CT1 Â Â 310101-400000 Â Â 458 Â Â DT175 Â Â 75 So my bike is a CT3?
July 19, 201212 yr Moderator From what i know the Dt came into being proper early 73. That number kicks off the 73 bikes although things weren't definite back then to say the least. The bikes are pretty much the same, only really obvious switch was the tailpipe swapping sides. With some having a different tank shape. A pic would help a lot.
July 19, 201212 yr Check the FAQ section for help posting pics too. You'll have to upload them to photobucket first.
July 20, 201212 yr No worries! Glad you got it sorted. Looks like a great bike. Not the first time (and likely not the last) that I'll say it, but I love the look of these classic bikes.
July 21, 201212 yr Moderator I'm going with CT due to what looks in the photo the 18"front wheel. Uk dt models have a 21.
