Stedman58 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Hi all, could anyone tell me how to adjust the clutch cable on an xv 125 virago, the clutch doesn't bite until the clutch lever is about 80% out or is this the normal place for it to start engaging? Also just wondering are the headstock bearings roller bearings or balls, cheers Steve
Paulwhite Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 80% out is about right......try giving the lever a bit of slack on the lever adjuster b4 u try the main one. there are 2 adjusters, one is at the lever end, this one lets you adjust the lever position say for instance the lever has a little free play and dont go back up properly, just tighten up the lever adjuster job done. the other adjuster is at the bottom of the cable covered in a rubber sleeve by the engine, its a long hexagon nut with a smaller lock nut holding it in place, if the biting point of the clutch is past the half way point of the lever then turn the long hexagon adjuster out by about 3 or 4 full turns, then try the clutch out . to test the clutch put the front wheel on a wall (just incase it lurches forwards!.....safety 1st!) start the bike and put into 1st, slowly release the clutch and you should feel the biting point (personally i like it just above the half way point) but set it to where u want, when set make sure the lock nut is tight against the long hexagon nut and remember to put the rubber sleeve back on. after that check the lever adjuster and tighten up if there is any free play in the lever (just enough to pull the lever back fully) and there u go as to the head bearings ......im not sure .....think there ball bearings in a cadge and not loose like hubs on a push bike.
