Hi everyone,

I have a Yamaha xvs 250 drag star 2003.

I was riding it one day and then suddenly oil started spewing out of the air filter and it cut off. When we had a look, there was a lot of oil in the air filter and and it seemed that the oil was coming through the crankcase breather hose up through the carb, (even though there seemed to be no oil in the carb). We noticed that it did not happen when it was turning over on idle but rather when we tried to ride it and a build up of pressure occurred.

Can anyone help? Any possible solutions or should i just take it to a garage.

Thanks in advance

if its even remotely similar to the XJ600 its likely to be a high oil level

As said before, probably too much oil in the bike so it gets dumped in the air box as the oil pressure goes up when the bike gets warmer.

When was the last oil change? Did you do it yourself? If so did you fill it right to the 'full' mark? Ideally you want it at half on the sight glass/ dip stick.

Thanks for the input, the oil is ok so maybe the piston rings, think I'm going to take it to garage when I get some cash, thanks again

Are you checking the oil level with the bike stood upright or lent over on the side stand ?
