Posted June 7, 201212 yr Seeking some help with a problem with my R1 2007 4C8 From cold bike starts, runs fine all the time. Normally drive to petrol station 0.3m form home, fill up then go to start, the bike fires up but dies straight away, yellow engine light comes on at the point just before it cuts out Will only stay fired up if revved above 3k ish. Happens with side stand down or up, in gear or not in gear. I have tried putting stand up and down in case it’s the sensor, switching ignition on & off to reset system, in gear rocked the bike to see if this helps, but none of these cure it. Once started and driven off the bike doesn’t die when coming to junctions, so the fault is only on starting at this point when the bike has just travelled a short distance so is only just warm. Any help appreciated or anyone else suffered the same problem & knows the fix. Thanks in advance
June 10, 201212 yr If the yellow engine lights coming on it wont be the side stand switch. An error code should be displayed on the dash, this will tell you what the problem is. Any mods to the bike?
June 11, 201212 yr Author I dont see any error codes as its starting or stalling, or is there a way to display the error codes after the event ? There are no mods to the bike at all - totally 100% standard as out of the crate Had the bike from new its only done 5k Any help appreciated
June 11, 201212 yr You may have to flick through the trip meter, clock etc to find the code. It is usually a 2 digit number and is stored untill you delete it. (I take back what i said earlier, theres an error code for side stand switch sorry) Also do you let it go through its cycle before you hit the starter button? I found this thread on another forum, sounds like the same problem: http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=243951
June 12, 201212 yr Author Thanks for searching on this one, really appreciated - looks like its pointing towards the battery. Been on optimate all the time, but battery now 5 years old so i have probably done quite well so far. Its not happening all the time so i guess i can live with it for now.
June 12, 201212 yr Yeah it looks like Yamaha had a batch of bad batteries, i guess its better to know its most likely that than something major. No worries.
