Spark90 Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Previously had a few bikes nicked so thought ide ask some advice bout security on a little DT125r, im thinking over night locked up with screaming alarm and chained to a wall mount. not too sure tho what brands to go for or any places to get a decent deal. brought a Xena screaming alarm prevously, but turned out to be a bit crap as one night some **** picked the bike up and walked off with it presumably. it was also chained with a squire chain, only a cheapish one but found that with a link cut. any ideas would be much appretiatedQQ
tgsm7 Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I use: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OXFORD-BRUTE-FORCE-MOTORCYCLE-BIKE-WALL-GROUND-ANCHOR-/380410180169?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item589236b249 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oxford-Hardcore-Chain-Padlock-Hardened-Steel-Lock-/330726181552?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Other_Vehicle_Parts_Accessories_ET&hash=item4d00d10ab0 and a Xena XX-6 alarmed disc lock. The ground anchor is very sturdy and when the chain is running through it, it covers the screws up. Placement and immovabilty can be an issue though as it sticks out and doesnt move. No problems with the chain, which i only use at home. But a determined thief could cut through it if they realllllly wanted to. Theres some videos from a chain brand on youtube which shows each brand of chain being cut with a pair of bolt cutters, but i find it obviously biased to their own product. The disclock is useful as it fits in a pocket easily and seems quite tough. It can be abit erm....tempermental when it wants to be, but its very loud.
nayruf Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Hi S90 Check with your insurance company as to which secondary security stuff they will recognise, they might give a small discount on the policy (well you can hope) but the main reason is that they will have one less reason to restrict any pay out on theft,
NEV Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Have a look at these, one for the garage door and one for a bike chain or put it on the disc,I bought one recently and was pretty impressed with it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230603111403?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Sacha Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 ooh... i think i might get a couple of those. i could use one for my garage door and another for my shed. (i think we have a couple of crackheads in the neighborhood who have messed with our locks before) no offense meant to any honest crackheads.

Ttaskmaster Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Every 6 months or so I repost the long article I wrote that breaks down bike thefts and appropriate security measures. I'd repost again, but I really can't be arsed right now. Do a search. It's all there, even down to type of lock mechanisms.

Some look reasonably priced and others expensive but if they do what they reckon it seems really worth it. Im planning on getting one soon when i can afford one . http://www.almax-sec...y-chains.co.uk/
Spark90 Posted May 15, 2012 Author Posted May 15, 2012 just ordered those two exact ones, been looking everywhere for reviews so quite reasuring to know other people are happy with them thanks! and i would sleep with the bike, dont think the missis would be happy being demoted to the sofa lol. were in a ground floor flat so im able to put the wall bracket next to our window and with a screaming alarm too should wake up! i hope!
Matthew Duncan Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 i use a motrax kaybul chain on my xj, has burn marks, saw marks, and the dust cap smashed off it, but its still keeping my bike safe i did have one of that alarmed disk locks, but it was a cheep crappy thing off ebay and way goign off every 2 seconds even when the wind was moving the bike
Spark90 Posted May 15, 2012 Author Posted May 15, 2012 wow! my squire chain seemed to have given up like a snowman in the desert lol will look into it!
