The guy who owned the bike before me did a really shit job of putting it on. Now my XT 125 looks a lot better without it off, so I have decided to keep it off. I just carry brand new L-Plates in the packet on me, so if the Police pull me I can just say I'm about to put them on. Also I feel like a knob with L-Plates on. Noise Posted April 25, 2012 Share Posted April 25, 2012 If you feel like a Knob then do your test and get shot of them for good, but if you cant do your test then get them back on as if your only on a CBT and you aint got your "proper" number of L plates on i.e 2.......then i think your find if you have a spill your insurance is void. thus fucking you up and the other persons involved. O and how dose 3 points and a £60 fine for each L plate not displayed sound?.................................is it really worth it? Bike looking cool....crash......insurance void......pay out for damages.....3 points for no L plate.......3points for accident........£60 fine for no L plate= one stupid thing to do. slice Posted April 25, 2012 Share Posted April 25, 2012 Sorry Jordan gotta agree with everyone else on this you might look a dick with L plates but they are there for a reason, it lets everyone know your a LEARNER and as such to give you space for any mistakes you might make. One of mine dropped off shortly after setting off, going through town and I saw the blues in my mirror.... got the full lot for one L Plate. ..he said he werent going to do the points, just the 60 quid. I don't know why you feel like a knob with L plates on, we've all been there and to be honest most bikers don't really notice L plates (in relation to street cred) but are just happy to see another person discover biking. I understand all that but its just a bit of common sense imo, its one of those things you were probably told whilst doing your cbt.. Think your going a bit overboard there, dilema's on legality are, is this exhaust too loud? Can i use these headlights? No L plates is a given, its not something only a traffic cop will know. You would even have beat bobbies walking past nicking you for that one. They are there for your safety too, it 'should' allow you a little give to make mistakes on the road. The reason why I asked is because since I took it off I have been spotted by countless Police vehicles including traffic Police. I even had a conversation with a specialist Police officer on his DZR trail bike (think that's what it was) when I was in a park. Despite all these incident's nothing has happened. With this in mind I thought it was not a big deal, now thanks to my 'post' I know otherwise and can do the proper thing. Must of been the law back in the day or mabey i just passed my test straight away or something, anyway i never had L-plates. And Jordan,,,,,,, just so ya know,,,, i always give L-platers a wave because i like the fact that they have found bikes and are growing the numbers. Grouch Posted April 25, 2012 Author Share Posted April 25, 2012 2Wheels, one of the first things I noticed when I got my bike and was out on the road was that the majority of other bikers I passed giving me a nod when they passed. i think this is really good and makes me feel like I belong to a special, secret society lol.
