Hi there, New to this forum and looking for help if possible. i have recently purchased a DT 125R LC well so im lead to believe. i will post pics soon. any way my problem is that the bike wont kick start. does not have key or electric start as its a field MX bike. i have checked and im getting a good spark. i have compression. im getting fuel from the tank to the carb and ive also stripped and cleaned the carb. but the bike wont start even with a bump start. i tried pouring a little fuel down theplug hole directly into the cylinder. when i done this the bike fired up then cut out. so my thoughts are that the engine is drawing air and not inducing fuel through the crankcase into the cylinder. am i correct? i have ordered new gaskets for the engine spark plug piston and rings. ive stripped the head and bore off the engine to carry out partial rebuild. is there much more to do for a complete rebuild after the bore is off? could anyone give me any pointers to why my bike doesnt start or to rebuilding my engine? thanks david

Sorry air head. New to the whole forum thing and really didn't think anyone would take notice of an intro. I've done so now.

Welcome davey " she looks like its had a hard life, well on your info , am thinking compression [ lack of ] if thers fuel, spark, ,

when you cleaned carb, did you remove jets, ? also is the choke working,? ,,,

Cheers for the reply black hat. I have Took the bore and head off and there seems to be no damage. But I've bought a piston and rings to replace them to be sure. Yeah completely cleaned the carb. I'm not sure if the choke is working. I tried kicking with the choke up and no difference. How do I check if the choke is working?

i had put fuel down the plug hole and kicked it and it started up but then cut out. and then i gave it a few more kicks and then checked the plug and it was wet with fuel yeah. does that mean the choke is knackered?

nah but it could have been wet with fuel you put through the plug hole.

what i meant was...without putting fuel in manually, does the plug get wet with fuel

by the way you should buy several spark plugs and try them all, sometimes they can be a bit finicky

I've got a new one there but at the moment ye bike is stripped and completely in bits. Gonna give it a rub down and paint the frame and stuff. Hopefully give it a new lease of life. But as I said I've got the bore and head off it to change the piston and rings and renew all the gaskets. Them that way I know it's right because I think the last owner tried it as there was a load of sealer and stuff around the gaskets.

Welcome David.

You should have tried harder to get her starting before you pulled the head off.

You could now put it all back togeather and find that it has perished crank seals,,,,,, then you will be stripping it all again.

Let us know what the story is eh!
