Posted April 8, 201212 yr Has anyone tried a brighter bulb in their 650? I have an allnighter coming up and would like to upgrade the Original headlight bulb. I haven't checked yet, but presume it will be a 60/55W bulb. The bike has no extra lights or electrical fittings apart from the OE. I did consider fitting an additional tail light to the rear of the sissy bar backrest to give a bit higher view of the tail/brake lights. The original light is okay, but I thought a bit brighter beam wouldn't go astray. Have thought about extra driving lights, but dont want to go over loading the electrics. Years ago, we would fit a 90/80W bulb without any problems.
April 9, 201212 yr Somewhere on here there is a very good piece about the electrical output from a XVS 650 and what extra lights use. As I recall there was very little spare output for running extra/more powerful lights. I thought I had saved it but can't find it now. April 10, 201212 yr Iv got a front lighting bar on my XVS1100 with two 55w lights fitted to it, so Im running 3 55w bulbs and get no trouble what so ever, all three including the tail light are switched on all the time I'm riding it. I'm guessing the 1100 electrics are going to be the same as the 650, so I cant see why you couldn't fit an extra back light, after all, it would only draw 6watts when on, and 27 watts total, when you brake.
April 10, 201212 yr Thanks for the info, Dickwad. I don't know if it makes that much of a difference but I have an XVS 125, not a 650.
