Tony-Howes
Hi Nice hot sunny day today So decided to start putting the seca back together Anyone know anything about valves at the top of fork stanchions Nothing in the manual and Google hasn’t helped much! Could I just replace them with a grommet? I fairly sure they are original, may have been just for the US market... Any help will be much appreciated Tony... Moderator Airhead Posted March 29, 2012 Moderator Share Posted March 29, 2012 leave them in, they are to pressurise your fork to your preference, not much pressure i wouldnt think...around 4-8psi at a total guess? Handy for a heavy rider with a full tank and tankbag on etc etc
Moderator Cynic Posted March 30, 2012 Moderator Share Posted March 30, 2012 They are there to prevent foaming in the fork oil according to my TDR manual (Max 6psi). Modern oil stops that, nothing to do with the load they can take. Best left TBH.
Tony-Howes
Cheers guys I figured there must be a reason for them (just couldn’t think what!)...
YPVS TONE
These are were fitted as standard to my RD350LC2 and the manual says: Standard pressure = 5.7psi Minimum pressure = Zero Maximum pressure = 11psi I used to run them at zero psi but now run them at 5psi as it does reduce the sag on the forks and makes it steer better. The only thing I have done is fitted a balance kit from M and P which keeps the pressure equalised between the forks. It is also a lot easier when checking the pressures as Yamaha say the pressure difference between the forks must not be more then 1.4psi. You only need a cycle pump to increase the pressure. If you use an airline you will blow the seals.
