fitting tachometer to xvs 125

the xvs didnt come with a tacho as standard

in the manual on page 3.9 it says a tachometer can conected to spark lead of cylinder 1 to set the idle i know this means a hand held tacho

but if i fit a tcho gauge will it read correct if connected to cylinder 1 as above

    it will read the 1 spark plug which im thinking wont be an accurate reading, best get the ones that can connect to 2 cylinders.......plus where will u be putting it?
