FZR - 750 To purchase or not to purchase?

I've come across a local dealer with a 1987 FZR - 750 with a 1985 750cc motor. There is 30,000km's on the bike and 15,000 on the motor. Catch is the bike is almost completely disassembled (engine stripped) I will include all the photos I have recieved, I'm wondering what is a reasonable price for this bike considering the amount of work needed to be done, he seems to have everything organized and claims it is all there. His asking price is $800CDN. I would also appreciate any issues or pros / cons if I do purchase, thanks a lot!

Hi Bryce, it looks like a good bike BUT and it's a big BUT, are you SURE that all the parts are there, not saying the seller is telling fibs but even the smallest parts can make for a major pain in the arse and the wallet, in the engine there a loads of valves and small ball bearings that are really important plus wiring and relays have to be tested before installing and a million other things that might be missing or broken plus WHY is in parts in the first place? what made the previous owner take it down to the component parts and then walk away. If your really good at the mechanicals then go for it otherwise RUN don't walk away. Or you could buy it and sell off the parts to make a few dollars but you will always end up with bits that no one wants so storage is going to be a problem over the long term. Sorry to be negative about any bike but some are best left under the rock you found them. :jossun:

He said he disassembled it to learn more about automotives and because it was hitting a false neutral (twice over the span of 6 months) after disassembly he found out this was normal and never found the time to put it back together

I wouldn't belive that, I'd be asking on a forum first before stripping down an engine!

offer some thing like 400 and see what happens

Sorry Bryce but that has to be the biggest load of old bollocks I have ever heard, you don't take a bike apart cos your curious and there MIGHT be a problem with the gear change, you ask around and find out first before taking the thing down to the last nut and bolt, as Drewps says offer him a couple of hundred and see what he says if he still wants loads of money then go buy one in working order even if it's rough and repair it your self, nothing like putting an old bike back into running order (providing of course that it is in one piece to start with) plus you DON'T want to be trying to rebuild a bike that somone else has already turned into a pile of scrap parts and lost interest or is to dumb to remember where all the parts go, in fact thinking about it walk away from this dog now and find something better, ask your mates and see if they might know someone who has an old bike in the back of their shed/garage/lockup that they don't want or need and buy that instead, ask your family to help out as well somone will know about an old bike that needs rescuing. good luck mate. :jossun:
