Hi folks,

I need to top up the oil.

My bike manual says my 1986 XJ900F needs 20W/40 oil.

It's really hard to get that exact spec.

Would 10W/40 be ok?

Also should it be semi synthetic?

I used to put semi sinthetic10/40 straight from Halfords in my 1997 XJ900 divi, It never had any problems, I know its sucking eggs, but Just be sure that the oil you use is specified as suitable for motorbikes, normal motorcar oils have various additives that can mess up the wet clutch on a bike.
