10,000 miles - WOW! Mine lasted 6,500...

Here's a link to the thread we discussed tyres recently.

In short there are two options for the 'correct' size 170/70/16 which are the stock Bridgestones and a Dunlop. Avon said they are going to make a 170 size radial which should be out early next year...

The US riders opt for a 180/70/16 tyre from Metzeler, Dunlop and Avon. Unfortunately Metzeler say that due to different regs they cannot recommend the 180 as a 'Stage 1 upgrade' like they do in the US...

I decided not to fit a 180 as I was unsure of how it would effect my insurance, but I will definitely be trying out the Avon at my next tyre change.

My dealer wanted to charge me £50 for fitting it... managed to haggle them down to £35 which was the same as a local independant tyre shop. Just hope they don't scratch your pulley like this which they did to mine = not happy!

Glad you've found some one to fit them cheapish... What happened to your pulleys? I had my front forks replaced under warranty as they corroded under the lacquer...

Hi, the pulleys and belt were replaced because of transmission noise including a loud whine on deceleration, the replacements have helped but not cured it altogether, back to the tyres, i've been told only dunlop and bridgestone do the size tyre i want, the cheapest price on the dunlop k555 i can get is £185 fitted ( ouch ) also i checked with my insurance company to see if i could fit a 180/70-16 but was told they wouldn't insure me and i would have to requote so that didn't help, the bridgestone ran out at £165 all in but i need to find out what the bridgestones are like before i make a decision but either way it ain't cheap, cheers

big problem, none of my local yam dealers or tyre dealers (north lincs ) can find 170/70-b16 tyres in stock anywhere with the earliest delivery being late september early october, anyone know where there is any? ta

my 2 local independant tyre suppliers are Woosters and Leeds Bike Tyres (both have websites). But, neither had them in stock when I tried them, though they/their suppliers might?? Unfortunately Woosters can't fit them as their lift isn't strong enough... On the link above someone said they found a place in Germany £102 inc postage to the UK (doesn't say where though). I've only used Bridgestones and thet seem ok.

RE pulley, my bike has started making a knocking noise on deceleration when really hot... yours could be the belt being too tight? I've read elsewhere the manual specs are too tight.

Hope you find your tyres.
