Conradv2
I have a Yamaha DT50 which I intend to use as a field bike for my 13 year old son. Although we did get it ticking over for a while I found it to be down on compression so whipped the top end off to find it had a broken ring and very ropey piston. I have a new barrel and piston on the way but since during one of the lung bursting kickstart session I noticed a lot of fuel on the carb inlet I wondered how important the reed valve is. I suppose my question is , do I need one? since the bike doesnt have one. Should the bike run without it or is it crucial to the wee beastie actually firing up. My experience with 2 strokers is limited so thanks for any info.
