I have recently brought an XVS 125 and was very pleased with my purchase, everything seemed in perfect working order until I changed the spark plugs and the oil filter and oil. I can now hear a very noticable rattle that was not there in the beginning. Please can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction.

Probably, yes... but it's not neccesarily anything to worry about immediately.

First up - Have you checked all the bolts are properly tightened?

Just to be sure, most of them have a torque setting which you can find in the service manual (downloads linked to in various threads here). Try going back and checking each one.
