R6VIRGIN Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 Yesterday when riding back from maidstone to wolverhampton i had a problem when i hit wolves. The engine temp. hit up to 104 degrees! it normally runs at around 81deg's and not much above it when rapid riding-especially in this cold weather. Also the idle went from approx 1,000rpm to just above 4,000rpm!!! It was a bitch trying to pull away from lights/junctions and trying to slow down also... I stopped at a garage checked the coolant and that was fine, everything else seemed ok, even double checked fuses and they seem fine??? It has got me miffed, i am thinking maybe that it may be contaminated fule or a fule issue? i filled up with 95 ron at maidstone, then in birmingham filled up with BP Ultimate, and thats when it seems to have started? :?: :?
jimjam Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 It seems odd that your bike would be that sensitive to fuel, especially off the high street. Could have been something like grit into a carb running you leaner and hotter or a water pump problem.
jimjam Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 Are you running tap water in the coling system?
R6VIRGIN Posted December 12, 2004 Author Posted December 12, 2004 the coolant resevoir is almost to the top, even cool so im guessing the previous owner may have topped it up, im going to change the coolant this week anyway and put silkolene pro cool in her... but i only just got the bike-emailed the previous owner tonight to see if he ever had the problem?
jimjam Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 I guess you would expect it to be pretty cool. Could be a slug of air. That's pretty unlikely though. Mind you, stopping from a relative hard ride to total stop in just a few metres on the forecourt would have transferred a lot of heat through the jacket. This would have made your temperature rise. But it would have gone down again on a few minutes. Try a drain and refill like you say.

Billy the kid Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 Check the carburation maybe you run lean because of more air in your fuel.
