Hi, was wondering if someone could answer a couple questions for me.

1. Do i drain the oil where the oil filter is or is it another nut?

2 How much oil? and why no dipstick?

3. Under foot shift small hole that in unthreaded and I can reach up into, what the heck is that? is it missing a plug?

thanks very much to anyone who can respond!

Hi, I'm a newbie, but had one of these years ago.

From what I recall, the dipstick is on the underneath of the oil filler cap.

The oil drain plug is the big nut pointing straight downunder the engine.

The oil filter casing, has to be cleaned spotlessly, as road grime and grit can get in.

There are six bolts under the motor on a small plate that has the 'oil strainer', in which should be taken out and cleaned.

If I'm wrong on any of these, I'm sorry, as its a very long time since I owned a XS400 Custom.

The tapped whole , ?? dunno.

Hope this helps.
