Kelum Posted April 15, 2011 Share Posted April 15, 2011 Like I said in another thread here I am having oil leak issues in both engine heads. In order to keep my baby look great I wash it with mild detergent at least once a week, it was normal for engine to misfire after a wash, earlier it didnt have prominent noise..but since recently I am experiencing prolonged misfires in front cylinder with some " fut......fut..........fut" noise..earlier the issue went ok once I accelerate engine in neutral position few minutes..I am guessing still it is a spark plug water issue...I sprayed WD 40 around where the spark plug meets the engine outer case...er..head. And washed it today. I noticed same misfires today but soon it went ok..then tonight on my way back home I was caught in a heavy rain. However when I was nearing home when I had to slower the engine I heard the same fut....fut noise with a resulting deceleration of bike..like its losing power.. What would be causing this issue, I think I should get sparks checked..I mean wires to make sure if the coils working fine..is it possible if those ignition coils under tank to malfunction once they got wet? Or this is caused by worn-out gaskets that kills the compression in heads? How can I check these? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Paulwhite Posted April 15, 2011 Share Posted April 15, 2011 are you having to wash the engine each week cause of oil??....that dont sound right id get the gaskets checked/replaced. the spark plugs shouldnt cause a misfire if you get some rain! check that it is all sealed properly and that there is no exposed wiers. my bike did something similar but it turned out to be a bad earth connection. check all your earthing points to make sure you have a good earth m8 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Kelum Posted April 16, 2011 Author Share Posted April 16, 2011 Hi Paul, thanx will check what it would turn out to be...plus I have this sort of issue too..when I ride at night head light, both high and low beams suddenly brightens up for few secs and becomes normal..I talked to an electrician and he told me the same issue might be there, am scared of short-circuit / fire issues..must get it checked soon. Am having issues in buying stuff from ebay as I dont have a credit card right now. I talked to my US friend but she has to order it from UK..and she doesnt seem to respond fast.. If you could check for a complete gasket set Paul, can u send me the price you could buy one and the postage fare for you to courier it to me? Give me a better option to send you money first. Only a biker would feel my grief! :unsure: Plus I think the oil leakage is becoming grave..I washed yesterday better to see how fast it develops.. Oil leakage is not the main issue that requests washing, its been dry season, roads are dusty..sometimes I take gravel roads so dust accumulate in oil and clogs engine fins. They wouldnt better dissipate engine heat once clogged. And when its rainy season its mud that tarnish the great look, mud accumulation corrodes metal parts..and when hardened with rust cleaning is impossible.. U guys can keep bikes nice and clean cos u have better roads he he..with all these I wanna keep her good looking and beautiful..so I normally wash once a week mate... I love this bike so much..its given me a really satisfactory riding experience... ;) for example last night I rode in heavy rain..she was perfectly balanced and no slips at all..even slips on dry gravel roads when I break are controlable..what a great design with lowered gravitational point... I just checked CDI unit and unlike the one that had posted here (CDI unit repair post )mine has only 6 leads coming out of it. I am guessing since my bike doesnt have a side stand switch that is one point. I cant figure out why there isnt ANY XV 125 manual in the globe...why cant at least yamaha upload one to net? Gaskets can directly relate to misfiring in front cylinder? Or is it water...but what if it happens when there's no water at all? Oil leaks have something to do with this? Or is it a simple /complex electrical issue, right now I dont have a tool to unscrew my plugs and check, dont know if front cylinder is requesting a new plug???? Paulwhite Posted April 17, 2011 Share Posted April 17, 2011 ahhh you didnt mention that you couldnt check ur spark plugs! lol yeah could be the plug is just dirty with carbon buildup causing an intermittent spark it should be a 17mm socket that you need to take the plug out. id do that 1st to see if that solves ur issue with the misfire. Pull the lead off first, fit the socket/spanner over the plug and turn anti clockwise. The plugs should be in straight ie not cross threaded and not loose. When youve got them out check their colour and the size of the gap. If the electrodes are corroded, fit new plugs ( I'd do that anyway as you dont know how long theyve been in the bike), gap size is in the manual that I emialed to you for the XV250. When you refit the plugs, dont screw them in cross threaded, if it gets tight screwing in then stop and if the plug end cap needs to stay on to fit the cap properly, make sure thats its tight. As it says in the book, a quarter to half a turn past finger tight to tighten the plugs in Out of interest, how many miles has the bike completed? I also feel sure that the bike will have a sidestand switch, double check that. Check that the + and - connections on the battery are clean and tight, same for the the earth connections. Let us now how you get on Yeah yeah I need to check plugs first, will buy the tool tomorrow, I often had the oil-on plug issue that stopped the bike running with my early Honda benly 125. So I used to keep a needle, sand paper and plug removing tool ready for cleaning carbon buildups on plug everywhere I went. Bike has completed around 41000kms, the reading on the tacho was 34000 when I was buying it. The CDI unit is having only 6 connectors. But the xv250 unit having 8. My bike doesnt have a side stand switch, may be the first owner has removed original stand or it originally didnt have one. Thanx for the reply let me try what u've suggested... Kelum Posted May 27, 2011 Author Share Posted May 27, 2011 Danzley you have taken lot of pain ta help me mate, thanx a lot, I may be able to find a similar washer...there could be many reasons to my bike's issue, at fixya.com I saw the same issue been answered and there they say its the wet coils causing that..but I will consider all..thing is am scared of removing gas tank..I mean there are many hoses running under.. Thanks a lot..hey I was wondering, ur bike looks very old..is there anyway to give it a good look, my chrome parts also are kinda discolored..but mine looking great...you can request any help bro..just leave a message..thanx again.. But mate, the side view wouldnt give the bike its masculine/personality without long silencers ha..?
