ben523 Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Hi, can anyone explain why my ybr 125 makes a "grating" noise when shifting down from 5th to 4th (this sequence only). I have changed the oil with yamaha semi-synthetic oil and is maintained regularly. any help appreciated!
Moderator Airhead Posted April 8, 2011 Moderator Posted April 8, 2011 Try increasing the revs with a little 'blip' of the throttle during ANY downshifting (not up shifting) it helps a lot
Roderick Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Hi. I have the same problem. i hear a noise when down shifting from 5th to 4th and the noise comes when i release the clutch. it seams that the noise comes louder when the engine is hot? any help pls? Thanks

slice Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Because your trying to get a fast spinning shaft to connect to a slow spinning shaft and if you "BLIP" the throttle then the two shafts usually line up better than if you just bang it into gear. Look up a video on YOUTUBE if you really want to know how a gearbox works.
